Tottenham 1 West Ham 0 - Is this the story of the season before the season has started?

I haven't seen the game so cannot comment upon it, but I am not in the least bit surprised by the result. In fact, it had to be a banker as a correct score forecast. Well us not scoring at any rate!

So, what was predictable? Green kept the score down but is being blamed in some quarters for the one goal we conceded. Faubert put in the final challenge before the goal was scored but his challenge was ineffective. Yet another player suffered a long term injury - but if you had to pick one, I suppose most would have opted for Luis Boa-Morte. The Foe scored. And most predictable of all, we failed to score.

I have been saying it all summer and I will state it loud and clear now. UNLESS WE SIGN TWO STRIKERS, WE FACE A STRUGGLE AGAINST RELEGATION THIS SEASON.

Wake up Zola, wake up Duxbury, wake up everybody. Yes it was only a friendly but this is yet another game where we have not managed to score twice. Last season we averaged a goal a game - that is relegation form offensively. We are WEAKER offensively now than we were last season.

I am VERY concerned. You should be too!

West Ham were poor. They looked about 2 weeks behind Spurs in terms of fitness. Could have quite easily been 4 or 5 nil where it not for Spurs profilacy in front of goal and some good keeping by Green.

The optimism on the org does puzzle me.

The result today does not matter! It’s the trend of not scoring, continuing from last year, and our inability to strengthen this area that does.

The facts are that we have effectively got one fit premier league striker! And he, no longer than 12 months ago, was chastised, by all, as a donkey! Let’s hope he does not get injured or slip back to his old ways, because we would be royally fooked!

So can we change this ineffective strike force? No, because we have no money! Can we loan in a decent player who will score 10+ goals a season, No, because there are none of them about. Will our midfield and defence suddenly contribute more…unlikely with the quality of our set pieces!

So I say support the team, but don't be blinded by those claret and blue specs, we are the ONLY premiership team without any money to spend, and yet our fans seem content with that, they believe we have progressed……at the moment I’m afraid we are treading water or slowly sinking. The only logical conclusion that can be made is that our team is weaker, and off course we are going to struggle and be relegation fodder if we can’t buy at least one striker and a right back! To point these negatives does not make you a bad supporter, it makes you a realist and if you can see the negatives you can start to do something about them, if you chose to hide away from them, they hit you right in the face, and then its too late!

We were rubbish, end of.
I am wide awake thanks, but what the eff can I/we do??
The only consolation is knowing that spuds have played a couple of games against 'quality' sides, which is why they looked sharper. Having said that they only landed yesterday FFS!!?

A month to go before the window shuts and there no sign of anyone coming to us. I'm not panicking but I'm pissed off now and the season hasn't started yet.

Mate, the performance disgusted me. Tottenham should have easily put four past us, Upson can leave on todays basis for all I care. The triangle passing we began to implement under zola last season went completely out the window and the tottenham midfielders were given so much space to play good through balls you would not beleave.

ALOT of work to do and a striker MUST to be signed. I'm usually full of optimism but this is a very big concern for me. Wolves may have a chance!

Hmmmm. This is a bit worrying. Not the usual, you must be a Spud for knocking the team replies. It seems the optimists are feeling a little chastened and a few more are waking up to the reality of the situation. I was optimistic at this stage last season (despite Curbishley) and posted on the org how we could challenge for the Prem (assuming Ashton was fit!). This season, that seems a million miles away and a long, hard season looms ahead. WHO is going to score the goals? Somebody tell me please!

hammertimeirons, you can't post negatively on the org without being accused of being Fanno!

We could have the two greatest strikers the world has ever known and still not score. The midfield could not pass to one another let alone to poor Cole. Thank God we had Collins and Green.
