When will the transfer merry go round start? Man City, Tottenham, Villa, Liverpool - it's all gone quiet over there!

Apart from Real Madrid, nobody has really done much in the transfer market so far. The transfer window is now officially open and players have reported back for pre season training and yet, Michael Owen apart, and he was on a free, nothing much has really happened. True we have landed Jimenez on a loan deal, Liverpool have bought Johnson for an absurdly inflated £17m and Man Utd have signed Valencia from Wigan for an absurd £16m, but what about Unreal City (after their initial spurt), Tootatthem, Blunderland and Villa, clubs linked with a host of deals recently but who have not yet captured their primary targets.

The delays are totally illogical. Selling clubs find themselves paying salaries through the summer for players they will not be using in the coming season. With salaries of £50,000 per week or more, that is crazy. Meanwhile, the buying club is reducing the time available to work with the new signings and, with wholesale changes, risk doing a Tootatthem, using September and October as a get together session, forfeiting fifteen points in the process. As for the players, they have to cope with moving home, and often country, whilst trying to perform to the best of their abilities for the new club.

The selling team is massively inconvenienced. The Mancs may not like the way that The Real Deal do business but at least Ferguson knew early doors that he had to replace Ronaldo. Look at the chaos at Tootatthem when Keane and Barbietop left very late in the day. Suddenly Oneday Ramos was scratching around trying to find anybody to play up front - and took a desperate punt on Roman Pavlova. He should have bought 'Arry's wife instead! And imagine the psychological effect on the rest of the squad left behind when a key player departs just before kick off. It happened to us when Joe Cole joined Chelsea; imagine the uncertainty that would be caused if Upson, Ashton and Green were to depart at the beginning of August!

The failed bid for John Terry is a worry. Unreal City have money to burn and are clearly targeting an English centre half. It may now be Lescott but Upson is more in the Terry mold so I expect him to be their first choice. If he goes, Clarke and Zola will have a major problem to solve. The longer they have to solve that problem, the better. Meanwhile, let's hope 'Arry leaves his inevitable flurry of deals as late as possible!

I'm a City fan (just for the record, I don't like the way football has gone in terms of money but then there is an element of, "if you can't beat them, join them," so if an Arab is going to buy loads of expensive players, it may as well be for us. Not that any of it seems to mean much any more). It drives me mad that Hughes hasn't got more or less all his signings sorted for the start of training. He knows he has loads of cash to spend, he knows where he needs to strengthen so why wait? I know we will still end up trying to sign a player at 11.50pm on August 31st. Basically, I think football people tend to be idiots. Incidentally, united are not "Mancs" they are as likely to be from around your way and have very little to do with Manchester.

City have signed Santa Cruz, Barry and Stuart Taylor that's a very weird no-one

To be fair, I forgot Santa Cruz (which was a done deal in January I suspect) and Barry. The main thrust of the argument remains however. Well said 0957 but the biggest problem is for the clubs who lose players late as Tootatthem showed last season.

City are finding out you can't just sign everyone you want, and arguably they are signing decent Prem class players who can do the job. Their more ambitious efforts (Kaka, Eto'o, Terry) are just that - and if they managed to pull off the Eto'o signing - then sure, its because of the millions on offer - but other than that, they are signing players any other rich Prem side would be happy to sign.

I guess you could still argue that they will beat most other Prem clubs if the player is more interested in cash.

Their main problem will be the manager this season.

spammakesmepuke is your typical Tottscum fan who has nothing intelligent to offer other than childish insults, the type of moron that was probably involved in giving Sol Campbell abuse, also is a disgusting, despicable wanker, but if he wants his drive tarmacked(spelling)then I'll do it for him and I'll even chuck a dog in with the deal. Now I've got that rant out of the way, I think that the way City are going about things with their chucking obscene amounts of money about, like trying to entice John Terry with a £300K a week salary is a disgrace to the beautiful game as it is not only vulgar but just inflates transfer prices and wage demands for every club, just so that dopey Arab can use the club as his playground, it's absolutely disgusting and Fanno, you may not trust Duxbury, but at least a far as wages are concerned, he is trying to do his bit in putting back some sensibility back into the game.

Yep D's E, I agree with you there!

Tootatthem? Blunderland? Barbietop?

Honestly, how old are you?

And you agree with Duxbury's Eyebrows about someone else being childish....

sounds like clockwork Orange!

As a West Ham fan, you should be asking yourself, do i care? I couldn't give a toss about who tottenham or Villa buy (i've discarded the other two as they have done business) aslong as they aren't West Ham players.

when West Ham sign a player i find out as much as i can about them and wish them well, most of the other teams players i only care about when they are playing well against us.

More focus on WEST HAM please.

tootathem? barbietop? bloody hell lad. grow up please iv got a 10year old brother that wouldn't write that shite. Even his mind is to mature to find that funny. As for city and the whole money aspect of football, and madrid at the moment but i cant see them carrying on like this it seems like more of a flash in the pan bid to stamp their authority on football, city i am a bit worried about but you cant blame them any club with that money would do the same maybe not with the crazy buy anyone that has a hint of quality mentality but still the same. A few seasons and they could be the next chelsea, worryingly. I dont like it too much but personally a salary cap sounds pretty good right now, it might just stop the stronger getting stronger, and the likes of burnley failing financially and eventually competetively. And as for you (hammersfan) concentrate on your clubs business the only mention was if you lost green etc, which personally i think is wrong anyway. If their a key player if they go july 1st or not they are hard to replace look at how united are struggling because people know what they need and the funds they have. Personally i dont think you have a bloody clue, and as a spurs fan im quite happy with the all quiet at WHL for now, at least we'll be slightly stable by the start of the season and not sacrificing a loss of 15points while the team attempts to gel through september and october.
