West Ham Trio Look Like England Understudies

Unfortunately, all three Hammers on show tonight looked what they are, squad players rather than first picks for England. Upson did ok but his distribution wasn't great and he looked very much the junior partner to Terry. Rio remains a much better player. Mind you, Kryten Lescott was awful so Upson must remain Understudy Number One.

Poor Carlton was only on for ten minutes or so but that was long enough to show us what we already know. His run into the box was superb but the shot that followed was woeful. If we need a goal to win or save a game, Carlton would not be the man for the job would he? Can he edge ahead of Heskey and Crouch? Defoe may make that an academic debate if he keeps sticking them away!

And Green? Well that hand ball was embarrassing wasn't it? Imagine if he did that in a World Cup quarter final and England went out to the resultant free kick! Could he have done better for the goal? I don't think so, Johnson and Lescott have to carry the can for that one, but there is something about Green's demeanour that makes him appear nervous - and that cannot inspire confidence in the defenders in front of him. So, when fit again, my money would be on James to claim back the number 1 shirt sadly.

Atta boy, way to join the rest of the weak tabloids by not standing up for Greeno. Would you say that to his face? Doubt it Mate. What you would say to his face may be what you should say on your sometimes funny blog. But mostly diarrhea of the brain. SADLY

Have the tabloids attacked him? Only just got up and haven't even been on News Now yet, never mind read a paper. The article was written last night.

The article is MY opinion and I do not need to read papers to understand a football match. Nor is it my job to stand up for Greeno. When Bobby Moore made that terrible mistake against Poland, I felt sick - he was my all time hero - but, even as a teenager, I didn't try to pretend it hadn't happened and I recognised that Bobby's talents were on the wane. When Devonshire and Cottee were picked for England I recognised that they were not good enough for the international stage. Just because you support West Ham, it doesn't mean you can't be honest about the performances and ability of West Ham players. On the flip side, I was always pressing for the inclusion of Bonds and, to thids day, believe he would have succeeded in the same way as Stuart Pearce did.

The Three Monkeys Brigade, of course, disagree with honesty, it is all about "Heil West Ham" in unity.

Who are these 3 Monkeys you keep mentioning?

Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil - the bunch who call me a Spud for saying it how I see it Deane. For those guys, any criticism is a form of treachery. They have a bunker mentality, and just like those close to Hitler, would rather see the project crushed rather than admit to any doubts. Duxbury's foot soldiers and blackshirts, the Claret and Blue Klan!

It's awfully good of those nice people at the sanatorium to let you use their computer but I think it's time you took your medication.

what a mug you are !
did you mean the mistake that norman hunter made against poland, when we never made the finals ?

i know there is certain fans who watch everything through rose tinted glasses, but you obviously have shit in your eyes and shit coming out of your mouth.

green had a good game, did what he had to do and the same goes for upson. never made any real mistakes. the goal was down to bad defending lescott was dogshit and terry looked dodgy as well.
as for cole, didn't have much time to get into game, but always looks more menacing than heskey ( just don't get what he's on for. ).

No, I mean when Moore was caught in possession (last man) in Katowice and the Pole took the ball on and scored. We drew at Wembley but lost in Poland. Had Moore not made the original mistake, the draw at home would have been enough to take us through to the finals. Hunter stood on the ball because we were desperate to keep the ball alive because of the need to win rather than draw. Shilton, of course, also dived over the subsequent shot so blame was shared for that goal at Wembley. Please don't try to correct me when you clearly don't know your facts. Any West Ham fan of my generation winces at the mention of Katowice. Moore looked human in an England shirt for only the second time. The previous occasion had been in the 1-3 reverse at home to Netzer inspired West Germany.

There is a huge difference from your three monkeys bullshit and standing up for your clubs like Liverpool Arsenal Man utd etc fans do. I guess you have to say Upson looked dodgy so you can criticise West Hams complete influence on the game. I think your full of shit, Upson didn't set a foot wrong and certainly didn't lose concentration like Ferdinand did against the Dutch. Why we are talking about Cole? Rooney was the worst performer on the night and missed three blinders. Green? handball was foolish, anymore? Nervous? no wonder. It seems nobody wants an England goalkeeper to do well because they criticise everything they do. just remember when when EVERYBODY was laughing at 'calamity James'

I remember the game in Katowice.

I don't agree with you all the time (If I did I wouldn't come on here to read your latest offering) but one thing I cannot fault you for is your knowledge of football of our era.

You are absolutely right about him looking 'human for only the second time' (as a kid, it took me a week to get over it!)

Hunter on the hand always looked human.

I also remember Gunter Netzer running riot that night in the West Germany game. Terrible night.
