Brazil 1 England 0 - So what?

Never in the field of conflict in sport was so much fuss made over so little. Yes Brazil beat our reserves 1-0 in absurdly hot conditions, yes had they scored the penalty it would have been more clear cut, yes Foster should have been sent off, but so what? No Gerrard, no Lampard, no Ashley Cole, no Terry, no Ferdinand, no Walcott, no Lennon, no Beckham, no Hargreaves, no Joe Cole, no Carlton Cole, no Nevilles and no David James turned the game into a total farce.

What did Capello learn from that exactly? Bent isn't good enough. Think we knew that. Jenas isn't either. Well there's a surprise. Wright-Phillips is short of the necessary class. Big surprise there to anybody who remembers him at Chelsea. Brown is a yard dog. Really, we would never have guessed!

To be fair, Upson (two embarrassing incidents apart), Lescott, Bridge and Milner coped better than I expected. With a reasonable right back, we might have got out of this with a draw. With creative flair in midfield, who knows we might beat this Brazil team.

So, a waste of everybody's time as far as I'm concerned: thank God Rooney didn't break a leg!

Aren't all friendlies a farce anyway?

Also if Brazil were the 'home' side why wasn't the game played in Brazil?

Regardless of the England team, Brazil's control, movement, angle of pass and vision were outstanding.

If we were to meet them in the World Cup semi's or the final, could we be destructive enough for long enough to contain them and be creative ourselves? It'll be a huge ask.

By the way, that pass for the goal, ooooohhhh!

Can you imagine the reaction if Rooney had done that pass?

Rooney should have been taken off at half time. He didn't need that game.

Please God let something happen to Gareth Barry before the World Cup. The guy is awful. How Capello does not have Parker ahead of him I do not know. I just hope Hargreaves comes back and stays fit.

I disagree Stani. Barry played poorly in this game I accept, but he was paired with Jenas who isn't good enough. Could you really risk Parker? Look at all the free kicks he gives away in the Prem, never mind with whistle happy refs on the international stage. Do you think he would get away with his turning in a circle as well? He would be nailed and lose possession.

Apache, I agree Brazil looked pretty awesome on the night but what did they actually create? Yes there was that one great goal but that was due to Brown's inability to keep up with the scorer - they should have exploited that much more in my opinion. The penalty was entirely down to Brown, then they hit the post from oputside the box. Who hit that awesome pass for the goal? A Man City reject. Who was the midfield engine? An Arsenal reject. Who would replace the goalscorer if fit? A guy soon to be rejected by Man City. We mustn't start thinking of these Brazilians as unbeatable, that's the biggest danger of this sort of game. We will not be playing in that heat and hopefully we will have players on the pitch to worry them!

HF, I'm not suggesting Parker should be first choice for Eng but I definitely think he's better than Barry. Hargreaves should be no.1 in the holding position.

I havent been impressed with Barry for a long time whether he played with Lampard or others. Just cos Liverpool wanted him for silly money, and city bought him for even more silly money, people believed the hype and he became a permanent international all of a sudden.

...and have you seen Barry's turning circle!...and the fact that he looks like he's gonna fall over everytime he runs with the ball.

I will cry my eyes out if he makes the WC team...cos it would mean that I could have!

We wont agree on this one mate. I was at Wembley for the last game as was very impressed with Barry - he was our best player until Beckham came on. I think he knits things together well personally. I'm a Barry fan!

That's cool HF. I have complete faith in Barry to cock things up!

We'll shake on it and agree to disagree but I will be reminding you ;)

As for Beckham, he is class isn't he. Some people need to get off his back. Can't wait to see him and Calrton play together for a significant period of time.
