Half Time Burnley 1 West Ham 0 - Can It Get Any Worse?

I blogged before kick off that we had to take the initiative from the off, and the exact reverse happened. Burnley came out of the traps like greyhounds on speed whilst we ambled out weighed down by an inflated sense of our own ability. Where is the fight? Where is the drive? But, most importantly, where is the inspiration?

Even with two op front, there is no forward momentum, no creativity, no joined up play. We all know that a midfield featuring Behrami, Noble and Parker is as toothless as a buttercup but still Zola persists. We all know that with Spector and Collison on the left, there is no hope of balance and attacking penetration on the left hand flank, yet still Zola persists.

McCarthy has looked ordinary but so has Cole. Without Diamante we have no invention, no creativity. Nothing new there but Zola doesn't get it, does he? Portsmouth away, Blackburn at home and now Burnley away, and we have looked as dangerous up front as a cabbage white butterfly.

And the Burnley goal? Upson and Green England players? Don't make me laugh! Nugent made the pair look like absolute mugs! Yes, Nugent! God help us! West Ham United under Zola, stings like a butterfly, floats like a bee!

Get rid of Noble. Important set piece, defenders up and hits the first man. Guy kicks a ball everyday of his life and still cant cross.

I highlighted before that the reason we have to play 5 in midfield is because our midfielders are weak. We got the two up front we wanted but it only highlighted how the 4 in the middle are just not up to it.

What is the excuse going to be this week, surely they can't still be nervous. What a pity they couldn't start off and maintain the same effort and urgency they showed at the finish.
I think the last throw of the dice if we want to stay up this season, is a new manager.

Agree John. As of today the board will be secretly scouting for a new manager.

Big mistake is that they were desperately looking for attackers when our real problem was the wings. Totally agree about the right wing being a black hole for us. There is also the left wing which is there to be exploited by better teams than Burnley. I don't think Zola and co. get it. Also, I would have started with Ilan in the team. The guy seems a natural smelling a goal and being in the right places at the right time. This is a game we should have never lost. And we lost it on mistakes and bad (or should I say terrible) tackics. Yes, we were unlucky not get at least a draw but this can be no excuse. Good teams make their own luck. Our passes were wasteful from midfield and we were not into this game the way Burnley were from the outset. I think that the unthinkable has happenned today. We allowed the worst team in the Premier league to dictate the game and win three points at our expense. One more game like this and see Zola walking. Perhaps he should because we have no room for more tactical errors.

Agree guys. Add to the debate on the "Time For Zola To Go" thread.

No debt, 15k wage cap and still ahead of you in the league

You'd swop positions in a flash
