Why the hatred for Beckham?

How spiteful and jealous are some people? One disgusting individual came onto this blog as soon as he heard the news about Beckham's injury and gloated. Why, for pity's sake? This is a guy who would run through brick walls for the England national team and who has served his country brilliantly on and off the pitch.

I was lucky enough to be at Wembley to see the Belarus game - probably Beckham's last competitive appearance in an England shirt - and he transformed the game, earning the Man of the Match award in the process. Every time he touched the ball, he oozed class - as he has through-out his career.

Is he a better player than Moore? Of course not. Is he a better midfielder than Peters or Brooking? Yes. Does he deserve all his caps? I don't begrudge him them. Yes there have been some cheap caps along the way but how many times did Moore play against the might of Wales and Northern Ireland in the Home Internationals?

Beckham deserved the opportunity to win a World Cup in South Africa. It is a crying shame that he will not be there and our chances have reduced because of his injury. I wish the guy well.

Spot on HF.

Some people just have something against him for no justifiable reason. People like Alan Mullery and Terry Butcher should just shut their traps.

His presence would have been a great asset in S.A whether he played or not.I really feel for him and hope he gets well soon. Top bloke.

I think that person is in the minority. Beckham's a great player with a top attitude. We could do with a few like him

because like all top footballers he earns far too much money and has an over inflated sense of his own worth

Deane, LA Galaxy offered him the money and more fool them! At least Beckham is hungry to play unlike various sick notes we have had on our payroll.

a Becks story must generate a few more hits than lowly west ham

I don't hate Beckham. I am more indifferent to him. My only problem is that he has always been grossly overrated. He was never such a good player as he was made out to be by the media and the public paranoia. There are so many good English players that quitely go about doing their job week in and week out who are much better than Beckham ever was. But that is just my opinion. My wife thinks that David and Victoria are incredible.

Delighted he won't be going there as part of the squad but there's nothing stopping him going for moral support. And he can pay for himself!! One trick pony, never gone past a guy in his life despite spending most of his career on the wing and is scraping into the squad at the moment cos most of the FA have image funds riding on it. His media whore of a wife cost him the opportunity to be one of the best in the world by dragging his every movement through the press for her own ends. Fack him and the horse he rode in on.

Apart from Rooney and Rio, Beckham is the only one that exudes class when he gets on the pitch in an England shirt. I'm not sure why, but Gerrard and Lampard seem to disappear and perform well below their club form.

its pretty simple really. Despite absurd and ill-educated hype over a figure that never had anhywhere near enough talent to hurt the big nations in tournament football, he continued to be shoved down peoples throats. I dont think ive ever witnessed such an embarrassing display from a man as beckham presented us with at Euro2004. It was than him showing the world he was a clown and a farud, it was the footballing Gods themselves declaring their rage at such a fake aquiring such an undeserved and unwarranted placing within their game. If you just look at the FOOTBALL for once, it is undeniably ture that Aaron Lennon v Croatia and Walcott v Croatia put in individually more teeling displays than anything the hyped up beckhams got anywhere near in 115 caps. It saus everything about beckham the media cult that after so many endless chances, his career "highlight" is still those 20 minutes of headless chicken playground schoolboy style running v greece in a qualifying match in 2001 on his own old trafford surface. Beckham is as close to a literal fraud that this game has ever seen and now hes departed, expect to witness a much more effective england midfield than was ever the case with him in it.

MOTM against Belarus. WOW that musta taken some doing. I don't hate him either but he's an average player who can put a cross in. Only on one foot mind. And you reckon he's better than Brooking. No wonder you write a crap blog.

to be honest, what annoys me most about beckham is that he really didnt "put a cross in". All that guff about how hed put balls on our strikers head from the flank, it STILL gets trotted out today. Watching england, from open play, i can barely recall more than about 2 or 3 times beckham ever put a cross onto say an Owens head from all his endless caps and chances. Weeve scored more goals in this campaign with beckham sat flat arsed on the bench than we ever did with him dictating where and when he played under eriksson. What REALLY gets on my tits is all this ridiculous hysteria over beckham being denied another chance when there was barely a murmour when Owens chances were over. Infact Owen didnt even get a chance to show his worth before another injury ruled him out and unlike beckham Owen had actually proven time and time again he had what it took to deliver in big games v big teams in world cups and euro championships. Beckham was always, always like a rabbit caught in the headlights when a decent opponent came along and had him in their pocket for 90 minutes, add everything together and this semi-mourning we were all meant to descend into after his injury just took the piss once too often for some of us. Not hate, just irritation.
