Why logic says it will all go pear shaped for West Ham tomorrow!

I'm getting worried. Despite our appalling performance at Liverpool, the majority of the fans still seem to be treating tomorrow as something of a formality. According to the creed, we turn up tomorrow, roll over Wigan and then hear through the PA that Hull have lost to Sunderland and Burnley have gone down to Arsenal. Job done, we are safe, let's start planning for another season in the Prem.

It reads like a great script but it ignores a few facts!

To begin, there is our home record against Wigan. The last five results at Upton Park, reading backwards, have been 2-1, 1-1, 0-2, 0-2, 1-3. One win in the last 5 head to head games between the sides at the Boleyn doesn't bode too well, does it? In fact, we have only ever beaten Wigan twice at home in the league! Does a home win look such a formality now?

Then there is the little matter of current form. We were absolutely dreadful at Liverpool on Monday, of course, whilst Wigan come into the game on the back of knocking three goals past Arsenal in their last ten minutes of game time. Does a home win look such a formality now?

Then there is the pressure. "Pressure? What pressure?" the Wigan boys will ask. But we are playing for our lives. Imagine the mood inside the Boleyn if we go a goal down and news comes through that Hull are ahead against Sunderland! Does a home win look such a formality now?

To win, we have to do something that we have only managed to do once so far this season, win two home games on the trot. Probability says that aint going to happen. Does a home win look such a formality now?

And then there is this assumption that Hull will roll over against Sunderland. This is a Sunderland team who have managed just ONE AWAY WIN ALL SEASON. If Hull could pick the ideal opponents for a must win game, they would be hard pushed to find a better option! Remember, this Sunderland team are so poor away from home that even we beat them! Hull, meanwhile, have only lost 6 games at home this season. Does a Sunderland win look at all probable now?

Of course, I would love the agony to end tomorrow but the more I look at the facts, the more I can hear a line from Platoon: "I have a really bad feeling about this one". Dear God, I hope I'm wrong!

i agree i am very nerves about tomorrow. but we can do it. come on you irons. lets get right behind the boys tomorrow and win this game. if we win tomorrow i dont think it matters wat hull do because i cant see them winning any of their last 2 games anyway.

They wont need to win both if they beat Sunderland, they will need to win one and draw one. Away to Wigan? Winnable and could easily get a point. Home to Liverpool with nothing to play for and a Europa League Final to look forwared to? Remember when Liverpool fielded their stiffs at Fulham in a similar situation in the Great Escape year? Torres is already out! Now, if we draw and Hull beat Sunderland...I would make Hull favourites to stay up!

To win we have to do something that we have done far too rarely this season - we have to play with passion.

Parker, Diamanti and (this one will get my sanity questioned) Franco may have the fire in their bellies for it but the others?

Who is going to deliver the "fight them on the beaches" speech and will sufficient respond? What price a Billy Bonds right now?

i think west ham will just do enough to win tomorrow. maybe 1-0 and i think hull mite get a draw.

Don't worry guys. Gianwanco's putting his faith in a barely fit Carlton Cole shooting us to safety this year. Everything surely must be OK now! 3-0 tomorrow, Cole double, one for Mido. Hull to lose to an Anton Ferdinand stoppage time winner. Job Done!

We mustn't concede early.

Also, I think Bent used up all his bad luck against us. A hat-trick for him tomorrow ;)

hammersfan can you really see hull getting 4 points from wigan A and liverpool H i cant. but even if they did. then they still have to hope west ham loose their last 2 games to stay up. ( cant see it my self ) no i reckon if we win tomorrow (West ham that is) then we will stay up. whos to say hull will win tomorrow anyway. i think west ham will win 2-0 and hull will probably draw or loose. fingers crossed they loose.

HF - Your previous prediction of 34/35 points still looks about right.

Must win tomorrow. If not Wigan are safe and we need them to be under pressure to get something in their next game against Hull. Lose and we will also be looking for 3/4 points against Fulham/Man C.

Thank goodness Scott Parker is back. Think we should also start with Diamanti as he is the most likely to pull something out of the bag. Expecting a lot of nail biting tomorrow.

19:22 Have you got a pay pal account?

It just wouldn't be the WHU way to win this game, Hull lose thus us staying up.

I'm hoping they follow the Ipswich playoff semi blowing fireworks, glitter and trumpets when they take the field.
