The bidding war has begun. Tottenham have tabled the first offer and West Ham have knocked it back. Sulliivan and Gold know that once Milner and Mascherano have been sold, Parker's value will increase.
The "Statement" on the Official Site is a masterpiece in misinformation. Those boys sure learnt a thing or two from Duxbury! The insistence that Parker will stay seems pretty categorical doesn't it? But tucked in there very cleverly is the release clause, the excuse that will be given when Sullivan explains, "There was nothing I could do!"
I quote, "The club informed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy prior to him making the offer that we would not welcome any approach to unsettle the player". So tell me, why issue a statement confirming that Tottenham have made a bid then? Why not keep it hushed up, forcing Tottenham to breach the rules by going public on the proposed deal? Why not say to Levy, "I am recording this conversation and if one word of this gets into the press, I will report Tottenham for tapping up a player in breach of the rules?"
But no, the club runs the deal up the flag pole and tells the world that Sullivan intends to keep his promise to the fans! What a guy! What a hero! What a great Chairman! David Sullivan we love you! Knocked back Tottenham! Saved our Scotty!
But hang on...Scotty is unsettled. Scotty wants to play in the Champions League. Scotty is a lifelong Tottenham fan. Scotty doesn't want to sign that new contract. Scotty wants to go.

So WHEN Scotty goes, Sullivan will come out smelling of roses and all the shit will be cloyed around the ankles of Scotty Parker. I can hear you guys now, "Bloody exPlastic Yid! Sullivan is always right! Long live Comrade Sullivan!"
But look at the News Now board. Who broke this story? The Daily Mail? No. The BBC? No. The Star? No. Who broke the story about Tootatthem unsettling Scott Parker? West Ham United! Odd that!!!

Of course that does rather ignore the fact that news of Spurs interest was reported yesterday and rumours have been kicking around for a while. Now I'm not Sullivan's greatest fan but linguistically speaking if he wanted a get out clause, as you suggest, he would have had something along the lines of "I do not want to sell" not "I will not".
As far as unsettling the player by making it so public it means Spurs will be under great scrutiny with any statement they make e.g. if Droopy were to say "Well he's obviously a player I admire and I think he could do well here" - the sort of thing that is normally said in these cases. The statement makes it harder to tap up Parker.
Nonsense! Parker is now tapped up, by West Ham. Why does 'Arry have to say anything other than, "Well it is public knowledge that we want Scott Parker. He is a player I like a lot!"? Who made it public knowledge? West Ham United! So how could we complain about that? Remove your head from your rectum sir, you are wriggling. If you are going to find an alternative explanation, find one that stacks up!
But surely it is purely and simply a statement of intent from Sullivan. It's NOT intended to drive up the price, because there isn't a price. He's NOT for sale! So why the pessimism? Why the rain-clouds of doom and gloom?

Pretty concrete that I'd say! They're not pressurising him. They're making it clear how important he is in theirs and Grant's plans. They're talking to his agent about a new 5 year deal. Sounds like good intent to me!!

Not sure where i standon this one. He will look stupid after releasing the statement he just has on the offical site, so ubnless Parker comes and asks to go then I can see him staying. I have said before tho, I would take 15million even if he doesnt ask for a transfer. Steven Ireland from city would be a great replacement, and with them having to trim there squad down, I think he could be getable. They have Given, Hart, Onunha, richards, Lescott, Bridge, SWP, Ireland, Barry, Johnson and Bellamy as there British quota so think they would sell for the right price.

It did not need a statement on the OWHU site for Scott to know Spurs were after him I did for God's sake... It's been reported in the papers and harry would have found a way of letting him know, if he was in any doubt. i do not think it is fair to finger gold/sullivan on this one, at least for the moment. We all know that in the end if a player does not want to play for a club there is little alternative but to let him go. They could be softening us up but the meaning seems prety uneqivocal to me; we want to keep him; he anit going nowhere..having said that, like you, I wouldn't be devatsated if we swopped him for £12 million quid.

He will just say it was out of his hands. I just don't trust him. Even in the statement, he's overdone it, tried too hard.

Most of what goes on with tapping players up goes on behind the scenes so Parker would already have been well aware of Spurs interest. Players do not just pick up a paper or read a website to see who might be interested in them - to suggest that is utter nonsense. By West Ham making that statement the minute Redknapp says "Well it is public knowledge that we want Scott Parker. He is a player I like a lot!" he is publically seeking to destabilise the player and leaves himself open to attack from Sullivan and a possible complaint to the FA.
Now it is clear you have a different interpretation of the statement but surely you publish a blog with a comments section because you want to see how other fans view the situation at the club. This is simply my interpretation.
Why will 'Arry be in trouble for confirming what West Ham have issued as an official statement? Once it is out there, 'Arry can say what he likes on the subject. If David Cameron were to announce he had enjoyed homosexual relationships whilst at Eton, I could say what I liked about those homosexual relationships subsequently.

Don't get me wrong, the jury was still out as far as I was concerned, but I interpret this as a very positive step in the right direction!
The club said "we would not welcome any approach to unsettle the player" if Redknapp were to say anything else he would be attempting to unsettle the player in a very public way. Your analogy does not fit - if Cameron made such a statement you would be limited in anything you said or wrote in a public forum to a repetition of the facts; anything beyond that would open you up to either a libel or slander case depending on how you had made your comments. In this case it would limit any Spurs response to confirming they made a bid for the player; anything beyond that could be construed as an attempt to unsettle the player therefore opening them up to possible action. It is all about the subtlety of the statement - something I am sure Spurs will understand.
I think you are being too harsh on the D's HF. They have obvioulsly offered him a better contract than he is likely to get from any other club, because they want to keep him and get some excellent PR out of it at the same time - 'we are not like previous owners, we mean what we say, and won't let the fans down' - Is it honour to the fans over ruling good business sense or good business sense balancing against good business sense?
I still worry about whether his rather slight frame leaves him fit enough to last a whole season playing the way we like to see him play. Hopefully this won't end up another disappointing expense
I respect your conspiracy theories and sometimes I make some of my own as you know. But I think you may be wrong in this one. Why?
1. You take G&S to be masters of deception capable of engineering and driving all this in the face of all the supporters and all possible critics. I am not at all convinced that they can do this, even if I were to believe you that this is their ultimate objective.
2. This is a very high risk game for G&S to play that may back fire in big way if they don't pull it through. I credit them to have enough brains to understand that this is so.
3. Perhaps it's true that the old guys have more heart than we give them credit for.
4. After all, they want and need to have the supporters behind them. Their every move is being watched and judged. They very know they should live up to their promises. This is why I don't think they would dare play such a high game as you suggest. Sullivan would never make such bold statements as:
"I made a promise that I would not sell Scott and I will not, for any amount of money, break that promise to the West Ham supporters" if he intended to cash in on Parker. If this was his intention he could have done that without restating such a huge promise.
If I am wrong and you are right I will take my hat off to you. I hope I won't have to. Maybe I have become an optimist. You should try it too sometimes.

I agree mate, he may well be telling the truth in regards to wanting to keep Parker but I am wary of his attentions and how he has now used this want of his. As I touched upon above, I think Sullivan can use this going public about the Spurs bid in one of two ways:
-He is either doing what HF has highlighted, where he will sell Parker yet still come out smelling of roses, OR
-Parker will not be sold but Sullivan will milk the situation and try to look a hero in an attempt to get sceptical fans on his side. I think his statement is dripping with hyperbole.
Both points above complement the fact that it is our club that broke the news when we didn't have to. Sullivan probably couldn't believe his luck when Spurs came in with a bid.
So even if he is honest in his point that Parker will not be sold, he is deceiving through the need to break the news and the manner in which he has overdone his rhetoric.
Of course, we should get behind the team, get behind the management BUT this does not mean we take our eyes off Gold, Sullivan and Brady (Brady for the right reasons!). I hope the jury is still out for you, even after this little stunt.

Although for the reasons I outlined above I chose not to believe that G&S are masterminding the sale of Parker, bagging a lot of money and coming out of this in flying colours and loved by everyone. I consider this type of conspiracy theory to be beyond their capabilities.
Funnily enough, it is easier for me to beleive they are just patriotic and want to move the club to a new level. But then again, it may be just wishful thinking on my part as I want to see that so much. For now, for a little while at least, let me enjoy being in my dreamworld!

The statement on the OS is a nice, if not PR laden, gesture by DS and I'm sure he means what he's saying but we all know that the players hold the power at present. So, until SP comes out and says he staying, we'll all take it with a pinch of salt.
The cynicism shown in this article and a lack of solidarity throughout the club (fans, owners & players) has been dragging us backwards for some time now.
We need to unite everyone involved in the club and push on. No more of the 'them and us' attitude that HF likes to promote. You call fans that have the audacity to disagree with you the 'three monkeys brigade' and in this article you go into 'pre-defence' mode with... 'I can hear you guys now...'.

Sure, we all get frustrated and sure, we don't agree with all decisions made by the club but this over the top cynicism is killing the very culture of our club.

Firstly it is GREAT that our owners are not just jumping all over the first bit of money that gets offered for our decent players.
Secondly it is GREAT that they want to keep us informed, even if it is a double edged sword and they want to look good in the process. So what.
Thirdly if Parker does eventually go then it will be for a stupid fee that would be impossible to turn down as they have clearly set their stall out.

Sure, the jury IS still out as their tenure is still in it's infancy, but my scepticism is happily waning! You wanna know why? Look back at their '10 point pledge'. I was very critical of this myself when it was announced...but look at it now. Most if not all boxes are now 'ticked'. Firm actions have replaced verbal intentions!
The fact that we haven't sold anyone yet, with only just over 2 weeks until season kick-off, is why I'm still adopting a watching brief. But I'm more than satisfied with the current situation!

1356 I think the cynicism needs to start now! The Tottenham offer was just £7million! I would have rejected that without a song and a dance. After Sullivan's statement, Parker has apparently said he wants to talk to Spurs which means that either Sullivan is very clever (my view) or very stupid. Which one is it do you think, keeping in mind that the guy is a multi millionaire?
