Carlton Cole Masters the Art of Scoring!

All those hours on the training field with Zola did no bloody good in the long run did they? In his last 13 games under the Italian, Carlton managed just one goal. So come the start of the new season, poor Cole was all over the place, all Zola's dedicated one to one coaching screwing with the poor guy's head.

Happily, however, the Wolves and Birmingham games have undone all that misguided work of Gianfranco. Bugger this hitting the ball cleanly business: take an air shot and you score; mishit a grubber along the ground and you are the match winning hero!

So Carlton is back to his clumsy worst and it is working. It's a bloody good job Avram doesn't dirty his hands with coaching. He just says to Carlton, "Just go out and do what comes naturally son. It's the only way you ever score!"

changing the focus here, and I like your posts HF...

I posted last week about mediocrity, and that Mediocre will keep a team in this league. I wanted to expand on that as I still believe that to be true (heck, even ManUre are showing a similar trait and currently top the league!). I think we score highly in the mediocrity league (& I’m not being negative here).

The other key ingredients are enthusiasm & energy, self belief & discipline. Blackpool, Wolves and Bolton (to name a few) have all this in bucket loads. Most of these attributes are personal traits, not training ground ones. We need to get the best out of our players in these disciplines and (unfornteunely) I don’t know enough about AG to say whether, one a 1:1 basis, he’s da man. Personally I hope he is, as bring a new manager in makes it easy for him, as he can blame it all on the other fella. The summer is the time to consider a change.

My point (finally) is this, and I’m not sure I ever thought I’d say this... I do believe we need to keep players like Spector, Faubert, Obina, Piquione in this team as much as possible (Reid looks good too) – they each exhibit a positive-can-do attitude, and boy do we need that. We just need a responsible defensive midfielder, sensible performances from Noble, Parker, Upson, Bridge & Green & I reckon we’ll do fine.

We fans that turn up (@ Upton Park) are the key to this – we get on their backs too easily (but usually justifiably). They need our help, not our scorn.

Oh yes, & I reckon 40 points is not enough this year...

Actually it's 3 goals in his last 15 games for Zola, with many of them not 90 minutes. Liar.

You are right. Slip of the keyboard or memory lapse, one goal in last 13 games! I will correct. Thanks.

god it's always a slip of the keyboard of the memory when you get caught lying - you clearly just make it up as you go along.

So why did you not only lie, but repeat the lie a few times now? Tell everyone.

Lying? LOL If I was going to lie, I woulldn't lie about something that could be checked so easily you stupid man. 13/15 so what? One goal in his last 13 games under Zola, does that suddenly make him prolific? Does that in any way undermine the point I was making? If I was going to lie, I would lie better and bigger than that!

Ok, so you didn't lie...so that means you're stupid then? And you're calling me stupid?

Stupid because in your words it can be "checked so easily", but you got it wrong. Not only once but twice. That's stupid×2.

3 goals in 15 games. That's 1 in 5, which is near enough his usual output and he was returning from injury. What a remarkably different picture.

But it was 1 goal in the last 13 neverless, that's one goal in 13!

So what you're saying is that not only were we short on strikers but Zola also had our main striker misfiring? What an impossible task he had. And to think he still kept us up!

Why did you change the post? This is the equivalent of using Tippex in an exam. You should have left the mistake so people could see what you're about i.e. you're opinion cannot be trusted because you even get simple facts wrong. Naughty boy.

But, of course, if that was my game I would simply change the article and not publish the criticism. Some of us are not so small minded and are not above admitting to an error. So it was one goal in 13 games. Great goal scoring ratio!

As for Zola, you keep forgetting we were kept up by Portsmouth, Hull and Burnley.

Sorry, cannot rely on what you are saying.

Hammersfan said...

Ah, that's a shame. Never mind though eh, you keep returning nevertheless. It's the Game, once ensnared...

Sorry, can't rely on the game either. You invented it. You say game and it may turn out to be something completely different. Then you'll have to go back and change it. You only lose a good reputation once and you've certainly done that me old chum.
