Are Sullivan and Gold really THAT stupid?

Fans seem to be undecided about our illustrious owners. Some believe they are fans and have a master plan to turn West Ham into a major force in the Prem; others think they are on a money making exercise and don't give a toss about the club; and another group adhere to the "cock up" theory.

What's indisputable is that since they have taken charge, they have made a series of awful decisions. Yes we were in a mess when they bought the club, but we were in the Prem, and we are not now. Decisions which fall somewhere between questionable and awful include:

1) The signing of McCarthy.
2) The signing of Mido.
3) The failure to sign defenders in the January 2010 window.
4) The undermining of Zola whilst he was still manager.
5) The stupid, "Everybody is for sale except Parker" statement.
6) The absurd contract given to Parker which has deflated his value now we have been relegated.
7) The failure to sign a left back in the January and summer windows of 2010.
8) The appointment of Avram Grant.
9) The failure to renew an inadequate squad last summer, moving out Parker, Cole, Behrami, Upson and Green and using the money to rebuild.
10) The terrible bungling attempt to replace Grant in January.
11) The decision to then leave the wounded and resentful Grant in charge.
12) The distraction of the Olympic Stadium.
13) The decision to employ an employee of the OLC as a consultant for the club.
14) Failing to arrest the slide towards relegation.
15) As we stand, with the new season less than a month away, we can''t even name a first 11 if all the players rumoured to be leaving do, in fact, defect.

That is quite a list given they have only been in charge for 18 months! What have they achieved on the positive side?

1) The wage bill has been slashed and will be slashed further.
2) As things stand, we will be the tenants of the Olympic Stadium.
3) We have signed Nolan.
4) The debt has been reduced despite falling revenues and, because of the slash and burn decimation of the squad, we are positioned to "survive Armageddon" of relegation.
5) Fans expectations have been brilliantly managed so, even now, there is not widespread revolt.

Can anybody think of anything else? Some will argue the retention of Scotty but we find ourselves in the Championship and Scotty is worth less now than he was a year ago so that must be seen as an error surely?

So, what is going on? Are the guys complete idiots? That seems unlikely given their record for making money. Who were the idiots at Birmingham, Sullivan & Gold who bought low and sold high, trousering a wedge, or the new dodgy owner / the poor Birmingham fans who celebrated jumping out of the frying pan into the fire?

Are they doing everything in the interests of West Ham United, the football club, and its fans? Unlikely surely. We are in the Championship and Doctor Evil Allardyce is in charge of the Academy of Football. Would ANY West Ham fan have opted for this scenario when the Dildo Boys took over the club?

Is this a master plan to make a personal fortune then? I remain very worried about the sale of the Boleyn. How much of the proceeds will be used to clear the debts ahead of selling the club at a tasty profit to any dodgy money launderer sloshing around at the time? My guess is 100% of it.

I may be wrong. Sullivan and Gold may be idiots but I fear that if the fans really want to spot the mugs at Upton Park, they need to look in the mirror.

Something else on the positive side - Allardyce?

I tried very hard to dispute anything in the post I failed

1012, did you want Allardyce befor S&G took over?

Utterly clueless whining.

Is that right? So, explain what you think is going on then 1022.

Never a truer word spoken. However, you most of all should adhere to this advice.

Also, Mido was definitely worth the gamble for £1,000 a week wage and no obligation to sign permanantly. It was more stupid NOT to give him a chance.

Mido, 5 starts, 4 appearances as a sub, no goals. The penalty miss against Everton cost us 2 points and could have relegated us. Mido sums up S&G's approach - cheap!

1. Zola wanted McCarthy. 2. Mido was worth a gamble 3. Agreed. 4. Agreed. These two points are linked between the lackof faith they had in Zola. Can't see too many suitors lining him up. 5. A statement of how important Parker was. 6. Do you want our best player well paid and kept for the next season IF we stayed up. 7. Already covered 8. Who knows what hecould of been capable of. 9. Nonsense. 10. Gold and Sullivan DIDN'T announce hisarrival. BBC news reported it. The media speculatedit. 11. Who else was around. 12. Distraction! What do you want the owners yodo exactly. Be in the media all the time! 13. Careful, haven't you read the statement. 14. Clutching at straws now 15. Lets just wait and see. Our world renowned youth products will shine.

Plus sides for this season. Allardyce. Nolan. World's best physio team. World's best youth academy get a chance show what itcan produce.

It always amazes me how fans want moneychucked at a football club. Gold and Sullivan are businessmen. They make money. Its life. You make yourself a millionaire then buy a football club. Chuckedmillionsaway, and sit silently in the background. You've failed at one point already and you haven't even made your millions.

Pennywise and poundfoolish! What is the point of fielding a player who is not good enough just because you are getting him on the cheap?!!!

Good list HF! I subscribe to the "stupid" theory. (Always did really).

Very interesting and some of their decisions and media comments have shown unbeliveably flawed judgement. However, please explain how G&S intend to make this fat profit on the sale of the club. They purchased the majority shareholding in a premership outfit and took on debts of massive proportion. As it stands we are a championship side that may fail to return to the premership. No players of very high value to sell and a 40Million black hole for next season. You're right they are idiots!!

What's your surname Emlyn, Apologist? I think they have admitted that she was employed as a consultant haven't they?

Mido wasn't worth a gamble. I said so at the time and I was right. The facts prove it. Had he scored a single goal you might have a case. he didn't. He was shit.

I don't understand your point re 12. I am saying that the focus on the Olympic Stadium meant they took their eyes off the ball in play - the current team! They are in the media all the time by the way!

Re 10, do you HONESTLY think we didn't try to replace Grant in January? You are a fool if that is the case.

I agree Zola wanted McCarthy, I have said so many times. But Zola probably wanted lots of players. Why did he get McBenni? He was cheap. Like Mido and Ilan and Reid and Ben Haim and Jacobsen and Barerra and Hitz and everybody else we signed. Until the panic button was pressed until January!

The Parker statement was stupid. How did the rest of the squad feel? And when we couldn't sell them, how motivated were they?

As regards Parker, my position is very well documented. I wanted him sold last summer and I considered the contract extension stupid. I've said so over and over and over. And I was right!

Are yoou suggesting we should have kept Grant? Bloody hell - I backed him but even I had to accept he was crap by the end. That team selected for the Wigan game said it all. Hines ahead of Spence in a must win game when Wigan's strength is down the flanks? Crazy!

Who else was around? Allardyce. O'Neill. Hughton. The Norwich manager if we had gone after him. There's four for starters!

14 is clutchiing at straws? Didn't they say relegation would be a disaster? So why did they allow it on their watch?

As for 15, we have waited and seen. Where are we Emlyn? In the n Power Championship!

There's only a £50m hole based on the old costs. Look what they have done to the wage bill! That's saved £20M a year on its own. Once Green, Cole and Parker have gone, they are hoping to net £12m to £15m. Up to £35m already. There is a parachute payment that gives us £20m a year as well. Job done for the first year at least.

I suspect the plan is to get up this year - but on the cheap. What chance would we have of surviving in the Prem next season without another overhaul of the team? None. Would that matter? No. Low wage bill, and another set of parachute payments secured by dint of being in the Prem for a year. Yo yo is so so financially.

Could we have a vote on whether HF is an idiot on not?

Anonymous said...

Wasn't Stani telling you most of this all along?

Hammersfan said...

You could have a vote if you like. You could use Survey Monkey like you did when you had a vote about whether or not HF supported Tottenham. Remember that pointless exercise. I do because the result didn't come out the way you wanted it to, so you never posted the result!

Well, well, well! Stands back in amazement.
The "undermining of Zola" the "appointment of Grant". Have you joined the rest of us?
I'm astonished, delighted - - - but astonished.

WHINGE NO MORE said...

All Hammers fans do at the moment is moan and attack each other. You've all had a good rant at everybody and it's time to stop that crap now! You all sound like a load of little girls!

FACT: we were shit last season and the one before it!
FACT: we were relegated and YES we deserved to be!
FACT: we're in the Npower (for) now but we don't want to be!
FACT: our owners have made us a laughing stock!
FACT: Zola wasn't up to the job!
FACT: Grant was even worse!
FACT: Mistakes were made!
FACT: Mistakes are STILL being made!
FACT: Mistakes will continue to be made1
AND SO ON...AND SO ON...

...... THAT'S LIFE! That's what being a West Ham fan is. If any of you don't like it then have the balls to go and support someone else! Or at least stop f**king whingeing about it. You're like a broken record ..WHINGE..WHINGE..WHINGE..f**king WHINGE

ENOUGH NOW!!

Sullivan and Gold are just continuing the years of miss management . They made their fortunes pedaling filth and bring the same philosophy to our great club .

The facts speak for themselves They bought Birmingham City for a quid and sold the club for 80 million I wouldn't mind employing fools like that.
