Are striker links the usual load of Baldock?

Sam Baldock
The latest player we have been linked with is MK Dons striker Sam Baldock, although he claims to be in the dark about our interest. I must admit that, like Manuel, "I know nothing" about Baldock other than what can be gleaned from the net. He is 22, he has a goal per game ratio of one in three - which isn't great given he plays in the lower divisions - and he is short at 5'7.

Is he the new Keegan? Who knows? Is there any substance to this rumour? Who knows? Is he any better than Hines who left on a free? Who knows? This may be the usual load of Baldock or maybe we will be talking about Big Sam and Little Sam anytime soon.

Can any Dons fans fill us in on how good this boy is?

This article came up using the NewsNow MK Dons page so I thought I would comment.

Sam is a fast little striker who can rip any defence to shreds are out level. He had only scored 29 in the past 3 seasons which is relatively low for a forward, however this is largely due to many injuries and an ever changing frontline (with over 6 partners and also used on the wing). He definitely has talent and has been likened to Michael Owen due to his physical size and his finishing ability, also the fact he scores the odd heaer. He loves to make runs onto through balls due to his pace. He has lacked the 'pouncing' instinct throughout his time but this year it is appearing to change (a rebound from a goalkeeping fumble at Cheltenham and sliding home against Chesterfield). He certainly has potential, but needs a year or two in the lower leagues to become a 20 goal a season forward. However as a Dons fan I would happily take £1.2million+ for him, simply because that is so much money for us

Cheers mate, a sensible and intelligent appraisal. Based on that, I think we should look elsewhere. We need a fully cooked striker not a raw one!

a goal every 3 games aint bad for a 22 year old. If Allaryce and his scouts think he's good enough then I'd trust their judgement, if it was Zola or Curbs I'd be a bit more concerned!

Wow 19:27 - MK Dons fan, what a refreshing and honest opinion! Thank you!

I would be happy to take a chance for £1.2Million and you rightly say that woudl go a long way for MK Dons.

We'll see what evolves but either way, good luck for the rest of the season!

I'm a West Ham fan and season ticket holder however I come from Milton Keynes and have seen Sam Baldock play numerous times, he is a very good player, he's too good for league 1 his goal to secure the hatrick on Saturday 20th August 2011 was a 25yrd screamer, he's not selfish either he would be a good signing for us and would do extremely well, he could well be the striker we just need

Thank you, all the best to the Hammers as well, have a fantastic side with a real quality manager so I expect promotion.

I think Sam would make a quite good Championship player, but in all honesty I expect promotion from you lot and if that is the case he will never get a chance to play and would be a complete waste of talent.

Hopefully Dons will get promoted this year, so Anonymous' comment at 20:07 will be proved right, not only is he, but Dons are too good for League 1 ;)

only 5'7" - funny that I've always imagined you to be much smaller HF, thinning hair, bushy eyebrows, a too prominent nose and a pot belly.

5'10 mate.

Sam is not the finished article, will be one day but he really needs a season injury free with help around him, hopefully this will be the year, BUT as an MK born and bred lad it would be great seeing him banging the goals in at a higher level . . . . . . . Hopefully for the Dons if not you guys

Good luck this season hope you bounce straight back

I do not take what most fans say about Sam Baldock to heart.

My thoughts is that we now have a manager who knows how to play him.

Karl Robinson worked under Sam Allardyce and I can only assume they have similar understandings of the game that has rubbed off onto KR.

But not to take anything away from Sammy B, played in the right position by the right coach he will do well - as long as he stays injury free.

Oh, he has just scored against Norwich tonight so the asking price has gone up .5 of a million :-)

Anyway, you can't have him this year as we need him. The money would not be passed to KR to spend and like last year, it was put and shut up.

Cheers
